Fr Joseph Mallin: Son of executed 1916 leader to get Freedom of Dublin
A JESUIT priest who is the last surviving child of an executed Easter Rising leader is to be awarded the Freedom of the City of Dublin. Fr Joseph Mallin, who celebrated his 102nd birthday in September, has lived in Hong Kong since 1948. The freedom of the city will be given to him in Hong Kong on March 21 because he will not be travelling to Dublin for the Rising commemorations. His father Michael Mallin was second-in-command of the Irish Citizen Army during Easter Week 1916.
