DUP's Jim Wells relieved to get the party's backing for South Down assembly election
Former health minister Jim Wells has spoken of his relief after being confirmed as the DUP's assembly candidate in South Down. There had been much speculation surrounding Mr Wells's selection after problems in both his private and public life. The sitting South Down MLA told The Irish News yesterday he was pleased to be confirmed as a candidate after a "very long process". The DUP is expected to unveil its full list of Stormont candidates for the May 5 election later this week.
