Paddy Heaney joined The Irish News as a freelance journalist in January 2000. Three months later, he started writing his Against the Breeze column which has run ever since.
A staff journalist at the newspaper for the past 15 years, Paddy writes mainly about Gaelic football. Despite vociferous protests from his readers, he also insists on writing about cycling, and occasionally fishing.
Having served in the trenches as a Gaelic Games reporter, Paddy says that one day he would like to try his hand as a war correspondent. He reckons there would be less conflict.
