Fergal spent more years than he cares to admit on nights as a sub-editor and chief sub at The Irish News before washing up in his current post, blinking and rubbing his eyes.
A Wicklow man, he made a break for the border after journalism school with a view to getting a few riots on his CV and getting his teeth done on the NHS. He met a Belfast woman, however, and the rest, as they say, has largely consisted of explaining to northerners that Wicklow is not Wexford.
He lives in Down because it’s hilly – unlike Wexford – with his wife, their daughter and a crazy cat
