Keeping death off our roads

Every death on our roads has a range of dreadful repercussions and the circumstances surrounding the funeral of 28-year-old John Gallagher at Killybegs in Co Donegal yesterday were particularly poignant.

Mr Gallagher was due to be best man at his brother's wedding today but the ceremony had to be postponed after he died when his van struck a derelict house outside Ballybofey on Monday.

There will be huge sympathy for his relatives and friends as what should have been a period of great celebration turned so swiftly to tragedy.

It is up to all road users to try and ensure that no other families have to endure similar heartache over the coming Christmas season.
