DUP should finally speak out over Ian Paisley

The decision by Ian Paisley to share a Twitter post which likened EU Remain supporters to paedophile Jimmy Savile was another appalling piece of judgment by the North Antrim MP.

Mr Paisley sent out an infantile message from another user reading "Ouija Board confirms Savile would have voted Remain'', and added his own comment, "Explains BBC coverage."

He has since deactivated his Twitter account, but, as he has just completed an unprecedented 30-day parliamentary suspension for failing to declare luxury holidays, that cannot be regarded as the end of the matter.

The onus must be on the DUP to offer a definitive view of Mr Paisley's behaviour and its wider impact on the party's reputation.
