Great support for Dáithí Mac Gabhann

The support offered by pupils at a Belfast school to little Dáithí Mac Gabhann, who urgently needs a life-saving heart transplant, has been truly inspirational.

Almost 140 students at Coláiste Feirste in the west of the city were moved to sign up for the organ donation register, as we reported yesterday, after a visit from two-year-old Dáithí.

His father, Máirtín Mac Gabhann, a former teacher at the school, said the response was `unbelievable', and had given everyone an enormous boost.

Dáithí remains on the list awaiting a suitable donor before an operation at the Freeman hospital in Newcastle upon Tyne, and the prayers of the entire community will be with the child and his family.
