Bangor fire disturbing

IT IS extremely disturbing to learn that the police are treating the fire which destroyed an Ulsterbus in a Co Down bus station as arson.

Another bus was damaged in the blaze at the station in Bangor which was reported at 5.10am on Sunday.

Last week a devastating fire completely destroyed the historic Bank Buildings in central Belfast, threatening up to 500 jobs and leaving a gaping hole in the economic life of the city.

It is still not clear what caused the conflagration which destroyed the iconic building and closed the Primark store, hopefully temporarily. What was made clear by the blaze was just how dangerous any fire can be, no matter how it starts.

It is to be hoped that police in Bangor will uncover the cause of the incident in that town speedily and if it was indeed deliberate, the person or persons responsible are brought before the courts.
