Anger over blocking of GAA broadcast

A considerable debate has taken place over the difficulties surrounding some cross-border broadcasting arrangements involving RTÉ, particularly when major sporting events are under way.

It is known that a number of complex contractual issues are at stake but it should also be noted that the frustration of northern citizens over their blank screens has been growing steadily.

The full apology offered by Sky TV after it wrongly blocked the transmission of RTÉ's flagship GAA programme The Sunday Game at the weekend was the least which could be expected in the circumstances, and it must be hoped that a turning point has now been reached.
