New era for Coalisland parking

It has been well documented that the implementation of parking restrictions can vary considerably across different centres of population in Ireland, north and south.

However, it cannot be acceptable that, despite regular complaints about related problems in Coalisland, Co Tyrone, not a single motorist has received a ticket there for a period of many years.

There have been persistent suggestions that wardens felt intimidated in the strongly nationalist town, but, as we reported yesterday, a consultation on traffic management proposals has now indicated that 80 per cent of residents would favour the proper enforcement of parking laws.

This is a positive development which will hopefully ensure that, with public support, the regulations are treated with the same respect in Coalisland as everywhere else.
