Time to celebrate Belfast's Dockers Club

Belfast's maritime tradition may not be as prominent as it was in previous decades but the 40th anniversary of the opening of the Dockers Club in the north of the city is still a notable occasion.

The Pilot Street institution has raised a remarkable £2m for charity down the years, as we reported yesterday, and additionally provides a home for a successful boxing club and an acting school, organises an annual inter-faith prayer service and hosts monthly nights for disabled guests.

It also offers an important social setting for its members from all sections of the community who will be fully entitled to raise a celebratory glass at their special gathering later this month
