Taunting of Dean Shiels is unacceptable

It is hard to fathom the mindset of some Falkirk fans who threw fake eyeballs towards Dunfermline Athletic midfielder Dean Shiels during Tuesday's Ladbrokes championship match.

The Northern Ireland international lost the sight of an eye in a domestic accident when he was a child but despite this setback has gone on to pursue a professional footballing career at a high level.

According to his father, Derry City manager Kenny Shiels, taunts are nothing new to the player but this latest incident was of a different order due to the premeditation involved.

Falkirk have rightly apologised for the incident but it is absolutely appalling that anyone would consider it acceptable to mock someone who has suffered a disability.

This sort of disgraceful behaviour needs to be completely rejected.
