Take extra care in extreme weather

WE DON’T get many hurricane warnings in Ireland. Technically the one heading our way and due to hit Ireland later this afternoon will be ‘ex-hurricane’ Ophelia.

While that means the winds and rain which this storm brings should not be quite as severe, we are still being warned to take care in winds expected to reach 80mph.

It is forecast that the west and south west of the country will be suffer the most severe battering. However, the north is still the subject of an amber warning, meaning there is a “potential risk to life and property”.

With that in mind we should all make sure we take extra care in the wet and windy conditions, conditions which could possibly bring down trees near roads and property, for instance.
