Alarm over west Belfast car crime

While significant efforts have been made to reduce car crime over the years, it is clear that serious incidents are still taking place in some areas of Belfast.

The episode when a vehicle crashed through a garden wall and into the front of a house on the Whiterock Road late on Tuesday night could easily have had tragic consequences.

Two men fled from the scene, while a third was arrested, and extensive damage was caused to the property, with particular fears that a gas pipe had been fractured.

It is essential that the police investigation receives total public cooperation and it is equally important that the enormous dangers involved in driving recklessly through residential districts are fully realised.
