BBC needs to note concerns

It is entirely understandable that the BBC needs to secure the services of talented performers in a range of sectors by offering highly attractive salaries.

However, as a publicly funded body, it must equally be acutely aware that huge numbers of ordinary workers across the public sector are struggling to cope with austerity measures.

One gesture it could make is to note that politicians, who are also paid from the public purse and who are regularly held to account by broadcasters, were eventually forced to drop the practice of holding more than one key post.

Perhaps the BBC could help to resolve the widespread concerns which were expressed yesterday by indicating that, in future, its prominent figures will normally be expected to concentrate their energies on a single very well paid job.
