Cross-border confusion over tolls

While it is entirely appropriate that tolls on the main Belfast to Dublin motorway can be paid in sterling, there will be considerable surprise that official instructions suggest only

Euro transactions are acceptable.

Queries from this newspaper have now established that both currencies can be used through the manned booths not only on the M1 but also at Dublin's Port Tunnel.

With heavy cross-border traffic using the facilities every day, it is important that any delays through confusion over the policy are avoided.

It is reasonable to expect that all the signage in place should be updated to leave no doubts in the minds of motorists about the charging procedures .
