GAA support for Ella's family reflects the best of our society

Ella Trainor was just six years old when she was killed in a road traffic collision near Newry in January this year.

The much-loved little girl had just returned to school after the Christmas holidays when her family was plunged into the sort of nightmare every parent dreads. Her father Martin Trainor has described the period since Ella's death as the worst time of the family's lives.

It is hard to imagine finding light in such darkness but the Trainors have decided to speak publicly about their gratitude to the GAA community for the ``unbelievable'' support they have received in the difficult weeks and months since that terrible day in January.

Not only has the GAA given the family tremendous support but the organisation has also made every effort to keep Ella's name alive.

It is a comfort to know that when families are confronted by unbearable pain and heartbreak there are people willing to show up and with kindness, consideration and practical help do whatever they can to get them through the darkest of times.

It reflects the best of our society and as the parents of little Ella have said, it is greatly appreciated by those suffering unbearable loss.
