The Donegal shipwreck known as Bád Eddie, or Eddie’s Boat, became internationally famous three decades ago through a haunting music video for the massive hit In A Lifetime, featuring Bono and Clannad.
It is also a noted landmark in the Gweedore area of the Donegal Gaeltacht, but sadly a combination of time and tide has left it in a dangerous condition and on the brink of final disintegration.
As we reported yesterday, county councillors are considering a proposal to replace the decaying timbers with either a replica vessel or some other form of permanent monument.
This would be a fitting tribute to Donegal’s seafaring tradition and there is also every possibility that it would prove to be a considerable tourist attraction as well.
