Distressing episode in Craigavon hospital

It is almost beyond belief that a patient could be covered in sewage as a result of a leaking pipe above a ceiling in a ward at Craigavon area hospital.

The Southern Trust yesterday moved swiftly to fully apologise for the distressing episode, caused by a blockage in fittings which were due for replacement in the coming weeks.

However, even if the circumstances were entirely unexpected, it was still an incident which should never have been allowed to happen in a modern health service facility.

It must be hoped that the patient makes a full recovery and that the strictest possible checks will prevent similar difficulties anywhere else in the hospital as the renovations are completed.
