The FBI and police are investigating if maggots were intentionally added to a breakfast prepared for delegates who were attending the Democratic National Convention Chicago.

The incident was first reported by WGN Chicago yesterday and it was alleged that maggots were added to the breakfast of Democratic delegates who were staying at the Fairmont Hotel in the city.

Delegates from Indiana, Minnesota, Ohio, Missouri and South Dakota are reported to be staying at the hotel.

Law enforcement sources have reportedly told WGN that maggots were brought into the hotel by activists seeking to send a message.

A spokesperson from the hotel confirmed to the outlet that an incident occurred, but not that maggots were placed on the food.

“We can confirm that a group of individuals caused a disruption at a DNC-related breakfast event at our hotel this morning,” the spokesperson told WGN Investigates.

“Our team acted immediately to clean and sanitize the area, ensuring that the event could continue without further incident.”

The DNC 2024 Joint Information Centre also confirmed that “multiple unknown female offenders” were alleged to have placed “unknown objects onto tables containing food” before leaving.

Indiana delegate Tracy Boyd told WGN Chicago, “I really do want to give a shout-out to the hotel staff and leadership.”

“They protected us, of course, and turned it around in minutes,” she added.

It was not the only disruption this week, as protests took place in the city on Monday as the DNC got underway.

Thousands of marchers took to the streets as part of protest calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and an end to US support for Israel.

President Biden acknowledged the protesters in his speech later that night, stating that they “have a point”.

Protestors also clashed with police outside the Israeli consulate in Chicago on the second night of the convention, leading to 56 arrests.
