FORMER television entertainer Rolf Harris has appeared in court accused of indecently assaulting young girls over a period of more than 30 years.

The Australian-born 86-year-old allegedly attacked seven women and girls, one of whom was aged under 13, between 1971 and 2004.

Some of the offences were allegedly committed at the BBC Television Centre in west London.

Wearing a grey suit, white shirt and multi-coloured tie, the former Animal Hospital host appeared via video link at London's Southwark Crown Court on Friday.

He spoke to confirm his identity during the brief hearing, and repeatedly interrupted to complain that he could not hear what was being said in court.

Harris previously pleaded not guilty to all seven counts of indecent assault and one alternative charge of sexual assault. He is due to stand trial on January 9, 2017.

He will face Southwark Crown Court on December 15 for a pre-trial hearing.
