Men who urinate in public are in for a shock as a new product which deflects water off walls and onto shoes is set to be put to use in London.

The council of Hackney is to have several walls painted with the special coating to deter offenders with weak bladders over the festive season. 

The special coating was developed in Hamburg, Germany and has been in use in the St Pauli area.

Spokesperson of a neighbourhood association Julia Staron said: "When you go out on the street here, you think you've landed in the sewer."
