A cyclist has died after he collided with a pillar in Dublin.

The male, who was aged in his late teens, sustained fatal injuries in the incident in Tallaght at around 10.30pm on Wednesday.

Gardai said the cyclist collided with a pillar in the Fortunestown Lane residential area.

Emergency services attended the scene and the male was taken to Tallaght University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

No other vehicles were involved in the collision.

A technical examination of the scene was completed by garda forensic collision investigators on Wednesday night.

Gardai have appealed for any witnesses to the collision to come forward.

Anyone who was in the vicinity of Mac Uilliam Heights in Tallaght between 10pm and 10.45pm on Wednesday and who may have camera footage, including mobile phone and dash-cam, has been asked to make the footage available to gardai.
