PRESIDENT Michael D Higgins is set to welcome James Martin and the team behind An Irish Goodbye to Áras an Uachtaráin on Friday.

The Oscar-winning actors and directors will be guests of the president at an event to celebrate their Academy Award success earlier this week at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

They will join other contributors to the Irish film industry at the St Patrick's Day reception at the president's residence in Dublin.

It is also understood that they will appear on the RTÉ Late Late Show on Friday night.

The Dublin events come after President Higgins earlier this week hailed Ireland’s success at the Oscars and said it had been a "remarkable" year for the Irish film industry.

He congratulated those behind An Irish Goodbye which took the award for best short film, as well as Dublin's Richard Baneham who was among those who won the Oscar for visual effects for Avatar: The Way Of Water.

President Higgins said: "The success which we are seeing is built on the acquisition of skills and pursuit of excellence by all in the Irish film community.

"As a gesture to all that has been achieved, and the important contribution of the film and related industries to Irish life, Sabina and myself look forward to hosting a St Patrick’s Day reception celebrating the Irish Film, Audio-Visual and Performing Arts Communities at Aras an Uachtarain this Friday."
