AN entertainer and broadcaster has been remanded on bail at Dublin District Court after being charged with three counts of defilement of a child.

The 39-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested on Tuesday morning before being brought before the court.

He is accused of engaging in a sexual act with a child under 17 in December 2010, and on two occasions on an unknown date in 2010, and on an unknown date between August 2010 and January 2011.

A garda detective told the court the accused made no reply when charged.

The court was told the Director of Public Prosecutions has directed trial on indictment, or that the case can be sent forward on signed pleas of guilty.

The accused was granted on his own bond of €500, with an order that he has no contact with the alleged injured party.

He is due to appear before the court again next month.
