Ireland misses out on the Eurovision Song Contest final

IRELAND has missed out on the Eurovision Song Contest final despite Lesley Roy giving an energetic performance of her song Maps in the first semi-final.

Singing in bare feet to rapturous applause, Roy appeared alongside an elaborate backdrop of moving paper cut-outs.

However, it was not enough to secure her place, with Norway, Israel, Russia, Azerbaijan, Malta, Lithuania, Cyprus, Sweden, Belgium, and Ukraine triumphing in the 16-strong line-up.

During the BBC Four coverage, UK entry James Newman appeared in a spoof Line Of Duty sketch featuring presenters Scott Mills, Rylan Clark-Neal and Chelcee Grimes.
