A Co Louth farmer has told how his fresh milk vending service has "taken off".

Tomás Smyth opened the 'Milk Shack' on the family farm in Dromiskin five weeks ago.

While vending machines offering eggs have been available on many farms, coronavirus restrictions have seen increased demand for other fresh products such as milk.

At 6am every morning, Mr Smyth and his brothers milk 180 cows.

The milk is then pasteurised and cooled on site before going immediately on sale.

Mr Smyth said he is selling between 200 and 400 litres of milk, six days a week, and customers can also buy milkshakes.

"I would never have imagined it would have taken off so quickly. Every day has been very busy," he told RTÉ.

"This morning's milk is in the machine at the minute. So it's not even three hours old. You can’t get fresher."
