AN Irish girl's Gaelic football was found washed up on a Welsh beach yesterday - a week after it was lost in Co Waterford.

Aoife Ni Niocaill (10) thought she had seen the last of her ball when it was carried out to sea at Woodstown beach near Dunmore East.

But just seven days later, a woman living in the west Wales village of Llanrhystud found the ball washed up on a beach - more than 200 km from where it was lost.

Aline Denton put a post on Facebook to find the owner.

"If anyone knows Aoife Ni Niocaill, her football’s just washed up on Llanrhystud beach - west Wales! Wonder how long it’s taken to get here from Ireland?" she wrote.

The post managed to reach Aoife's dad Ruairi.

"I'm Aoife's dad, she's 10 years old and she lost her ball on Woodstown Beach in Co Waterford last Sunday," he wrote.

"It went in the water as the tide was going out and all we could do was watch it drift away. I showed her the picture you posted - she thinks she's famous now!".

Ms Denton thanked everyone who had shared the original post.
