A BOY aged three remained seriously ill in hospital yesterday after being struck by a car in a 'hit and run' crash in Cork.

It happened shortly before 4pm at Castle Meadows off Skehard Road in the city.

Gardaí said the car involved failed to remain at the scene.

The young boy was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital were his condition was last night understood to be serious.

The scene of the crash was preserved as it was examined by garda forensic collision investigators.

Gardaí appealed for any witnesses or any motorists with dash cam footage to contact them.
