TWO Co Donegal men have appeared in court in Australia charged with murder.

Christopher McLaughlin (24) and Nathan Kelly (21) are accused over the death of 66-year-old Paul Tavelardis.

Mr Tavelardis was found with critical injures on the side of a road on December 29 in the Summer Hill area of Sydney.

The grandfather-of-nine had been battling leukaemia.

The defendants appeared via video-link from separate prisons.

Mr McLaughlin, from Malin on the Inishowen peninsula, appeared from Long Bay Prison Hospital and Mr Kelly, from Glengad, from Silverwater Correctional Complex.

They had previously been charged with grievous bodily harm and affray before Mr Tavelardis's death earlier this week.

The pair remain in custody and are due to appear in court again on March 6.
