VETERAN rockers The Rolling Stones thrilled Irish fans last night by playing in the Republic for the first time in 11 years.

The band's European leg of their No Filter tour got underway at the home of GAA - Dublin's Croke Park.

Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood played an energetic gig which included classic hits Wild Horses, Paint It Black and It's Only Rock 'n' Roll.

The band last played Ireland in 2007. Their gig at Slane Castle in Co Meath came 25 years since their previous Irish date, also at Slane, in 1982.

Singer Mick Jagger arrived in Dublin several days before last night's gig. He posted a video of himself on Twitter dancing in Croke Park. He was also seen attending the third day of the cricket test match between Ireland and Pakistan on Sunday.
