THE group of teenage friends involved in the latest road tragedy in Co Donegal had been planning their first ever holiday abroad this year.

It emerged yesterday that one of the victims, Nathan Dixon-Gill (17), had his picture taken for his first passport just hours before the devastating crash.

He died along with his close friend Nathan Farrell (18) when they car they were travelling in left the main Derry to Moville road early on Saturday. No other vehicles were involved.

They had been returning to their Buncrana homes after a disco at The Baily nightclub at the Redcastle hotel.

Three other teenage friends in the car are being treated in hospitals in Letterkenny, Derry and Belfast although their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The funeral of Nathan Dixon-Gill will take place from his grandfather Seamus Gill’s home at Backhill, Buncrana tomorrow morning. Funeral arrangements for Nathan Farrell have not yet been finalised.

Buncrana parish priest Fr Francis Bradley said the teens were part of a very close group of friends.

“They were shortly to go on holiday together for their first holiday away. In fact, Nathan Dixon-Gill’s mother, Sinead, showed me the photographs which Nathan had taken just on Friday last for his passport, for his first passport so that he could go off on this holiday,” he said.

Fr Bradley said there is a “legacy of loss” in Buncrana following the latest tragedy to hit the town.

“We are suffering too much loss in this respect in this area,” he said.
