Al Pacino is to star in a film co-written and produced by Co Down author Colin Bateman.

The Hollywood actor is set to play the title role in Killing Castro, which details the life of Cuban revolutionary Fidel Castro.

Bateman, who hails from Bangor, is among the script writers and executive producers for the upcoming movie.

Writing on social media, the novelist and screen-writer wrote of his delight that Pacino was to star in the film.

"Always fancied having that young chap Al Pacino in one of my films," he said.

The film, based on true events set in 1960, tells the story of Castro’s time in New York shortly after the Cuban revolution, where he had travelled to deliver his first speech to the United Nations.

It will follow Castro when he meets Malcolm X, who invites him to stay at famed Hotel Theresa in Harlem.
