Former Irish News journalist, Kieran McDaid has been appointed Ireland editor of The Sunday Times.

Mr McDaid, from Buncrana in Co Donegal, was named as successor to outgoing editor Nóirín Hegarty.

Mr McDaid started his career as a journalist in 2001 with The Irish News before moving onto the Press Association.

Following stints at The Irish Independent and the former Irish News of the World, he as appointed editor of The Sun’s Irish edition.

Mr McDaid said it was an honour to be appointed editor of The Sunday Times. He said his passion for journalism still burned as brightly as ever.
