Man hospitalised after being shot in both legs in Derry

A man in his 20s has been hospitalised after being shot in both legs in Derry.

Police say they were alerted just before 11.15pm on Sunday that a man had been located injured in the Marianus Park area of the city.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “The victim had been shot twice, once in each calf. Two masked men are reported to have been involved in the attack. The victim, who is aged in his 20s, was taken to hospital by Northern Ireland Ambulance Service where he remains today receiving treatment for his injuries, which are not believed to life-threatening.”

Detectives from the Strand Road Criminal Investigation Branch are now investigating the attack and working to establish the circumstances.

An appeal for anyone in the area around the same time who witnessed any suspicious activity have been urged to call 101, quoting reference 1763 of September 17.

Information can also be passed on anonymously to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
