Second man dies as result of Co Antrim crash

A 28-year-old man has died following a crash last week that claimed the life of another man in Co Antrim.

Police confirmed on Tuesday that Matthew Anderson, who was from the Lisburn area, died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash on May 31 in Crumlin.

The two-vehicle collision, which happened at Moira Road outside the village at around 7.15am, saw 74-year-old west Belfast shopkeeper Robert Laverty killed as he drove his Renault Scenic.

Mr Laverty, who ran a newsagents in the Dairy Farm shopping centre at Stewartstown Road, died at the scene of the crash.

He was laid to rest on Monday following a funeral at Crumlin's Mater Dei Church.

Mr Anderson, who had been behind the wheel of a Ford Fiesta at the time of the crash, was taken to hospital and remained in a critical condition before his death.

Police are continuing to investigate the collision, and a PSNI spokesperson said: “Our investigation is ongoing and we are continuing to appeal to anyone who was travelling in the area at around this time, and who may have  dash-cam footage or any information which could assist us with our enquiries, to contact the Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting reference number 266 of 31/05/23.”
