Two men charged in connection with the painting of a Christmas mural in the window of a dissident republican group's headquarters in Derry are to have their case heard on August 1.

Jordan Devine (22) of Bishop Street and William McDonnell (36) of Balbane Pass, both in Derry, are charged with being a member or supporters of a proscribed organisation in that they displayed the mural on dates between November 24 and December 21 last year.

The mural, which was painted on Junior McDaid House - the headquarters of Saoradh - depicted Santa Claus and a snowman pressing a bomb trigger.

Defence counsel for Devine, Eoghan Devlin, said in court on Monday that no witnesses were required in the case and it should last approximately one hour.

He said any date suitable to the court would be acceptable.

A date was fixed for the contest on August 1 at Derry Magistrate's Court.

Both defendants are on bail.
