Five men charged over unlawful assembly in Ards estate at centre of loyalist feud

POLICE investigating a report of unlawful assembly in a Co Down housing estate at the centre of a loyalist feud have charged five men.

The men were arrested on Monday in relation to an incident in Weaver's Grange in Newtownards on April 6.

Police said a "large group of men" gathered at a house in the area at around 8pm on that date, before threats were made to a male occupant of a house.

The men arrested on Monday are aged 56, 48, 43, 40 and 35, and were later charged with unlawful assembly and affray.

All five are due to appear at Newtownards Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, and all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Enquiries are continuing and this incident is being linked to the ongoing feud between rival drugs gangs across Ards and north Down.
