One of the first’s high profile casualties of election 2023 was former DUP mayor of Derry, Graham Warke.
Mr Warke, who stood as an independent after leaving the DUP last year, was eliminated on the first count after taking only 279 votes in Derry City and Strabane District Council Faughan ward.
Following his term in office in 2021-22, Mr Warke announced he was leaving the DUP because he believed the resrictions of party politics made it too difficult to represent all people.
