LIAM Neeson's upcoming Co Donegal-shot thriller is set to be released in cinemas in the autumn after being acquired by a major film studio.

In the Land of Saints and Sinners, which was filmed on location across Donegal last year, is directed by Oscar-nominated Robert Lorenz and also stars Belfast's Ciaran Hinds.

It was revealed on Thursday that the film has been acquired by Samuel Goldwyn Films, which will release it later this year.

In the movie, Neeson plays the role of a retired assassin who takes on a trio of terrorists in a remote Irish village.

It also features Dublin-born star Colm Meaney and Co Tipperary's Kerry Condon, who starred in the multi-Oscar nominated The Banshees of Inisherin.

Samuel Goldwyn Films president Peter Goldwyn said: “With multiple Oscar nominees in front of and behind the camera, we’re confident that In the Land of Saints and Sinners will be another thought-provoking entry in Liam Neeson’s storied filmography and delight both critics and audiences alike."
