London exhibition to celebrate life of John Hume as 25th anniversary of Good Friday marked

A NEW London exhibition celebrating the life of John Hume is to open to mark the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Good Friday Agreement.

“He Made Hope and History Rhyme” opens at Europe House, Smith Square in London on Tuesday and coincides with the unveiling at Dáil Éireann of a fourth bust of the Nobel Peace Laureate on Wednesday.

Irish ambassador to the UK, Martin Fraser will open the London exhibition which has been organised by the European Parliament Liaison Office.

A spokesman said it would celebrate “one of that momentous occasion’s (Good Friday Agreement) principal architects”.

“The exhibition will highlight his role in the peace process and feature a bust of him sculpted by the artist Elizabeth O’Kane, along with sketches, photographs and interviews.

“The exhibition will be opened by His Excellency Martin Fraser, Ambassador of Ireland to the UK, followed by remarks by Dame Pauline Green, former Member of the European Parliament and Claire Hanna, Member of Parliament for Belfast South,” the spokesman said.

The exhibition will r un from Monday to Friday at Europe House until May 4 this year.

Ceann Comhairle of Dáil Éireann, Seán Ó Fearghaíl will unveil a bust of the late SDLP leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner at the Houses of the Oireachtas in Dublin on Wednesday.

The bust is one of four specially commissioned pieces created by Dublin-based sculptor, Liz O’Kane. Busts have already been installed at the Irish embassies in Washington DC and London.
