TWO firearms found in a hedge in a Co Fermanagh village at the weekend will undergo forensic tests, the PSNI have said.

The weapons were discovered by a member of the public during a community litter pick in Ballinamallard on Saturday afternoon.

It’s understood they were found inside a plastic bag in Barragh Gardens, a residential area in the centre of the village.

The area was cordoned off by the PSNI and army technical officers attended the scene on Saturday.

Police confirmed on Sunday that the bag contained two firearms and a quantity of ammunition.

“All items have been seized and will now be subject to forensic examination," said the PSNI in a statement.

“Detectives investigating the discovery are keen to hear from anyone with information that could assist the investigation.”

Meanwhile, a 51-year-old man is due to appear before Craigavon Magistrates court on Monday morning on firearms charges.

It follows the search at a property in the Garvaghy Road area of Dromara on Saturday, where firearms and ammunition were seized.

Police said the man has been charged with ‘prohibition of possession of a firearm or ammunition’.

“As is usual procedure the charges will be reviewed by the PPS.”
