TWO masked men claimed to be police officers during an attempted robbery in south Belfast.

The pair approached a man who was walking his dog in the Broomhill Park area at around 7pm on Monday.

Grabbing him by the arms, the two men told him they were PSNI officers and patted down his pockets before letting him go. The men got into a parked vehicle and left the area.

Both had their faces covered and were wearing dark hats, black Napapijri jackets, black trousers and shoes. One man was described as tall with ginger hair, while the other was shorter with a beard.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Enquiries are ongoing and police would appeal to anyone with any information in relation to the incident to contact 101 quoting reference number 1064 – 12/03/23."
