THE remains of a Co Tyrone father-of-two who went missing in Florida last year have finally been laid to rest in his home village.

John McNamee (47), from Pomeroy, had lived in the United States for 13 years before he was reported missing last May when he failed to turn up for a flight.

His body was eventually found during a search of woodland close to Jacksonville International Airport on July 9, 2022.

Members of his family had joined in the search at the time and said they were "truly grateful to those who all helped in finding John and enabling us to bring him home."

On Saturday, a Requiem Mass was held at the Church of Assumption in Pomeroy followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery.

A family notice described him as the "doting daddy to Isobella and Chloe," their mother Jen, a "beloved son of Tony and Kathleen" and a cherished brother to his five siblings.

Donations in lieu of flowers have been requested to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust.
