THE Grammy Awards may have been a triumph for Beyonce, Adele and Ozzy Osbourne, but as far as the internet is concerned, it was actor Ben Affleck’s pained expression that stole the show.
A now viral clip shows the 50-year-old Oscar winner looking increasingly bored while his wife Jennifer Lopez dances energetically to Stevie Wonder’s performance.
While many saw the funny side, comparing the Batman star to a depleted phone battery, others including introverts and non-drinkers offered their sympathy.
Among the many online reactions, one Twitter user thanked him for bringing attention to “the very real condition known as ‘Resting Boston Face’”.
Coming to his defence, another said: “Ben Affleck is every introvert everywhere. You can see his batteries draining in real time. Man is already at 23 per cent”.
Referring to the star's previous struggles with addiction, one commented: “I don’t normally give Ben Affleck the benefit of the doubt, but he’s been trying to stay sober and the Grammys is an event where the booze is flowing freely. Trying to abstain in that sort of environment makes you feel a bit shabby.”
USA Today reporter Erin Jensen, also pointed out that awards shows were often punishingly long and monotonous.
“Maybe there was something going on that made it difficult for the star to maintain a smile for the length of the entire event,” she said.
“Or maybe he was having a great time and that is just his face!”
