POLICE investigating criminal damage caused to a car in Newry by a gang of masked men have arrested a 32-year-old man.

The targeting of the vehicle happened outside a gym in the Carrive Road area of the town, close to Silverbridge Road, at around 7pm on Monday.

The four men smashed the car's windows with a metal bar before ramming its front with a dark-coloured Toyota Avensis.

"This was a terrifying experience for the driver of the car, who has been left badly shaken," a PSNI spokesperson said.

"We are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time, and saw anything suspicious or who may have dash-cam or CCTV footage that could help with our investigation, to call detectives on 101, quoting reference number 1616 of 30/01/23."
