Man (60) arrested at airport under Terrorism Act following attack on Shankill Road bar

Police have arrested a man (60) at Belfast City Airport on Sunday night under the Terrorism Act in connection with an incident in which a masked gang armed with baseball bats smashed windows and TVs in a Belfast bar.

Police reported that up to 20 men were involved in the attack on the bar in the Shankill Road on Friday.

The Paramilitary Crime Task Force investigating the incident in the bar in the Shankill Road area of North Belfast,  have appealed for information.

This is the second arrest made in connection with the incident.  A 59-year-old man has been released on bail.

Detective Chief Inspector Kelly said: “The man, who was arrested at Belfast City Airport on Sunday night, was arrested under the Terrorism Act and remains in custody at this time.

“Our enquiries into this incident on Friday 27th January are ongoing and I would ask anyone with information or who may be able to help with our investigation, to call detectives at Grosvenor Road on 101, quoting reference number 1696 27/01/23."
