Roads reopen after Cookstown security alert ends

The Coagh Street area in Cookstown was cordoned off on Monday following reports of a suspicious object.

A SECURITY alert in Cookstown ended after 'nothing untoward' was found following reports of a suspicious object in the town.

The alert was sparked on Monday evening after the object was reported in the Coagh Street area of the town.

The area was cordoned off to motorists and members of the public were advised to avoid the scene as an inspection took place.

The area was reopened shortly before 8pm.

"Officers conducted a public safety operation in the area and a suspicious object located has been declared as nothing untoward. All roads have now reopened," a PSNI spokesperson said.

"Police would like to thank the local community for their assistance during this time."
