Nine men charged after weapons found in  two 'suspicious' transit vans

Nine men have been charged after police discovered weapons including hatchets and machetes in two 'suspicious' transit vans in the Newtownabbey area on Saturday morning.

The men, aged between 18 and 41, have each been charged with offences including possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

Police stopped one of the vans near Swanston Road North and the other was stopped on the Antrim Road.

The men are to appear before Belfast Magistrates' Court today, Monday 30 January.

As is normal procedure, the charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
