The MAC has held an event in New York to showcase the "amazing impact" it has had in Northern Ireland "promoting and celebrating the arts and contributing to the development of individuals and local communities".

During the `Friends of the MAC' event, which took place at the Dead Rabbit bar in the city, Anne McReynolds, Chief Executive of the MAC, spoke to those gathered.

Among those in attendance was Geraldine Byrne Nason, Ireland's Ambassador to the US, Chris Heaton-Harris, Northern Ireland Secretary, and Belfast-born actor and producer, Geraldine Hughes.

Through the `Friends of the MAC' membership scheme, donors will support the Belfast theatre space while enabling it to continue its vital charity and community work.

Anne McReynolds, MAC Chief Executive, said: "The MAC is also a charity, we exist for everyone and we have close partnerships with socio-economically deprived communities in Belfast and across Northern Ireland.

"With more funding and support, the MAC can expand its work and continue to be a place where people feel safe while they experience incredible art, or even make some of their own".
